About Wireline Systems...
A Wireline system uses wires or cables
to transmit signals instead of air-borne
radio frequencies. Wireline based on
copper wires was used to provide basic
telephony services to the subscribers.
Nowadays consumer Wireline voice
services have been especially hard hit
due to the growth of wireless voice
services and increased competition among
Wireline service providers.
Revenue from traditional Wireline
services will continue a steady decline
over the next few years and carriers
will have to promote other services to
make up the difference. These include IP
Telephony, QoS for Internet access, IP
VPN, managed security & firewall, and
Telco TV."
Also the business expenditures will
decline for Wireline voice and data
access/transport services due to
adoption of Voice over IP and migration
to lower-cost data services. However,
internet access services for both
consumer and business still remain an
area of growth.
Business services providers will have to
think in a more consultative manner
which requires a greater understanding
of a customer’s LAN, and a time
commitment to seamlessly integrate the
LAN and WAN together.
Traditional copper Wireline network can
be exploited for broadband services. As
software call control replaces circuit
switches, it is less expensive to put a
network in place and keep it running.
Proprietary circuit switch equipment is
being replaced with blade computer
servers. Soft switches and routers form
a significant aspect of the network.
Access equipment takes up more of
capital expenditure. .
New network architectures make it less
expensive to provide network services.
New applications provide increasing
numbers of revenue streams.
